NYP Commences its First Ever Degree Programme

NYP’s journey of education excellence has reached another milestone, with the offering of its first-ever degree programme.

The BA (Hons) in Retail Marketing, a joint collaboration with Stirling University, was approved by the Ministry of Education under the Poly-Foreign Specialised Institutes initiative to help polytechnic students gain access to more degree programmes in niche areas.

The new programme, which commenced in September 2008 with an intake of 54, is jointly taught by the retail and marketing team at NYP’s School of Business Management (SBM) and faculty from Stirling University.

Through this collaboration, students will have an opportunity to complete part of their studies at the Stirling University campus in UK. Similarly, students from the Stirling campus can choose to complete part of the degree at NYP.

“This degree programme will encourage students to think independently and critically, so our immediate goal is to ensure they are ready for that. At the same time, we will give them our fullest support by providing them access to all the academic resources and materials in UK,” said Professor Clyde A, Warden, Programme Director.

Director of School of Business Management, Mr Chiang Kah Kee said that graduates of this programme would be able to meet the strong demand for trained retail executives.

“University of Stirling has a very strong reputation and extensive experience in Singapore.  It has established a strong linkage with executive level training and consultancy for the retail industry in Singapore and the region since 1989. The degree programme will provide students with a definite advantage in their future career,” he said.

The assurance of a high quality education and recognition prompted Quek Pei Fen to apply for the course.

“My former lecturers at Temasek Polytechnic gave the thumbs up and encouraged me to apply. I was given direct entry to third year and can complete the entire programme in two years,” said Pei Fen.
