Our NYP’s Trail Blazers team presented their winning project to Senior Minister of State for Education and Information, Communications and the Arts, Rear Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew during his visit to the Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC) at Marina Boulevard on 1st September.

These graduates from the Diploma in Electronics, Computer & Communications Engineering course won the Embedded Development category in the prestigious Microsoft Imagine Cup 2008 held in Paris in July.

The boys impressed Rear-Admiral Lui with their enthusiasm, passion for technology and concern for the environment in developing the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS). He said that the team had done Singapore proud by winning the Imagine Cup 2008.

Rear-Admiral Lui learned that the team was already looking at commercialising the technology. The technology, he said, has market potential and could be used in enclosed environments such as shipyards and factories.

Located in the Microsoft office at One Marina Boulevard, the MIC is part of the global network of 60 innovation centres set up with the primary objective of supporting and growing local software companies through partnerships with government, academia, and the industry.
